About Us

Chappell Red Angus is a small 25 head cow/calf operation located in central Pennsylvania. Chappell Red Angus made their first Red Angus purchase in 1989.  It is owned and operated by Dan and Erica Chappell. We are dedicated to producing top quality Red Angus cattle.

Our cows are bred and fed for real world conditions and can thrive anywhere in the USA.  Over the years, we have sold cattle to all parts of the country; from Florida to Maine, from Texas to North Dakota, and anywhere in between.  Yes, our cows adapt to fescue very well as they are bred with enough spring of rib, capacity, and guts to consume enough fescue to maintain their body condition, raise a calf efficiently and breed back.  Our cows live on grass pastures, hay, and crop residue.  They are not fed grain or corn silage.  When pastures are bad, we use supplement tubs for added energy and protein, if needed.  We also maintain a well-balanced mineral program.

Our mission is to provide total performance genetics & breed leading EPDs. We strive for balanced EPDs combined with cattle that are phenotypically correct with good feet and legs. We will not sacrifice overall structural soundness for a good EPD profile.  Our cows need both or they go to the stockyards!  We strive for moderate to high birth weights with exceptional growth on a five to six frame animal.  We have very high milking cows with good udders.  We also have some of the best carcass traits in the country and the data to prove it. And last, but certainly not least, our cattle have great dispositions.

We are focused on providing quality bulls for the commercial cattle industry and replacement females for seed stock producers.  Our bulls are grown out, not fed out.  They are fed for 3# ADG.  The bulls are not rolling in fat, they are in good breeding condition.

We utilize both natural and AI breeding in our program, as well as embryo transfers. Our animals are all ultrasounded for carcass data and our bulls are semen tested. We like to provide our customers with as much data as possible in their decision making process.

Raising cattle is a passion we both share. We are proud of our herd and would love to give you a tour of our facility. So, if you are in the area, please stop by and visit us!
